Blue hole park is a scenic lagoon by the limestone bluffs along the San Gabriel River. The Park is open from 5 AM to 10 PM and it is free to enter. The Park offers walking trails, and spots for fishing. There are some picnic areas, and restrooms are well maintained.

This spring we packed up our rugged rig with everything needed for two nights away and headed south to Lost Maples State Natural Area.  Provisions for the trip included lots of food, Rambler sparkling water, plenty of s’more supplies, coffee beans from Red Sand Roastery in Seminole, Texas, and a healthy dose of adventure attitude.

While most Texans are familiar with the beauty and vastness of the Palo Duro Canyon, what many people do not know is that there is a smaller, but just as impressive, canyon worth exploring in the Texas Panhandle.  Located 100 miles Southeast of Amarillo, Caprock Canyons spans over 15,000 acres, is home to more than 90 miles of trails, and is inhabited by many different forms of wildlife.

Just about an hour away from DFW, Cleburne State Park is perfect for a single day trip, or a weekend getaway. With 13 miles of heavily forested trails there is no shortage of sights to see here, and there are options for all levels of age and skill. And did I mention there’s a waterfall?
