Stop in Boerne, Texas for a Weekend Family Adventure
Hello Wander Wheels Family! John here, the curator of @Dad.Camera.Action on Instagram. I’m excited to share some highlights our family weekend trip to Boerne, TX, just 45 minutes north of San Antonio. It’s an amazing Texas town fueled by German roots. Whether you’re just wanting to walk along the beautiful Cibolo Trail, explore a caves, or just kick back to enjoy a local brew, Boerne has it all and more!
We arrived to Boerne with an appetite so we made our way over to The Dienger Trading Co. for brunch. It’s located just off of Main St. in downtown Boerne. Should you happen to wait for your table, they have a unique boutique store inside the restaurant to browse around. They also have a bakery should you just want to grab a coffee and a quick snack to go! The service was amazing and the food was phenomenal. I knew it was a hit because the kids actually ate all of their French toast, bacon, and eggs, that never happens. One of my boys looked at me and said “this is really good daddy” and they are HARSH critics haha! I had a brunch burger and my wife had some sort of elevated French toast with all the fixin’s! You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu! Be sure to swing by when you visit!
Now that we’re all full, we decided to head about 15-20 minutes away from downtown Boerne to explore a cave. A Cave Without a Name... Yes, that’s the name of the cave. This was actually my first time ever exploring a cave and I must say it was pretty cool and interesting to see. We had an extremely knowledgeable cave guide that explained the history and some quite a few interesting facts along the way. The pictures don’t do this place justice, I tried to capture it as best I could but it truly is something you must see in person. You can also do a little gem panning at the end of the tour which is a hit with the kiddos. My first cave experience and it won’t be the last!
We headed back to Main St, which is the heart of Boerne. When were at Dienger Trading Co earlier the kids noticed a candy shop directly across the street. They begged to go but I said we’ll go after we visit the cave. I thought they were going to forget but not a chance! We ended up visiting this family-owned candy shop named Salty and Sweet. It’s a small shop but its packed full of goodies. Some candy will take you down memory lane and make you feel like a kid again. Pretzels, ice cream, popcorn, cotton candy, and more! The kids filled small plastic bags with a variety of sugar madness as if they needed the extra boost of energy.
Filled with sugar, we decide to take a walk along the Cibolo Trail which wasn’t too far from the Salty and Sweet shop. It’s a nice paved and wide trail so everyone can enjoy whether you’re biking, roller blading, running or just walking with the family. Along the trail, you find pit stops for drinks, food, or just to sit and people watch (my favorite). A few restaurants are accessible by the trail as well. It’s nice trail for many reasons but my reason was to expend some of the sugar from the kids, so they don’t drive me and my wife insane lol.
The next day, we decided to check out a new play park in Boerne: Arrows Active Play Park! Mom and Dad, make sure you stretch and bring your pain meds if you get sore quickly haha! This place is fun for ALL ages! It’s an indoor park filled with slides, obstacle courses, swings, and my favorite the nerf gun area! There’s also a place for the babies/smaller kids to play without getting pinged by a nerf ball. If you get hungry or thirsty, they have a cafe as well with a variety of options. With it being new, it’s expected to be clean which it was but I can tell they are making a conscious effort to keep it clean with numerous staff cleaning constantly throughout the play area. Also, they have a great system in place to prevent kids from leaving with someone other than the family/friends they arrived with. We literally spent almost the whole day here and the kids are asking to go back!
We capped off the day by visiting The Bubble Tea Factory! We downed some refreshing bubble tea and smoothies after pushing our bodies to the limit at Arrows Active Play Park. This spot located in small shopping center just around the corner from Main St. They have plenty of options to choose from, you won’t leave disappointed!
These were just a few things we did while visiting Boerne, TX. Trust me they have so much more to offer. I hope this helped spark some interest into paying the awesome place a visit! I plan on taking just my wife next time so we can check out a few of the local breweries and fine dining options! Have fun, be kind, and enjoy life y’all!
